“NT knocks back $10m and cries poor on renal plan

The Northern Territory Government will hand back $10 million in Commonwealth funding intended to be used for the accommodation of dialysis patients at Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
In 2011, the Federal Government announced the allocation of $13 million to build the accommodation facilities. No action was taken by the Territory Government for more than a year, which resulted in $3 million being automatically returned to the Commonwealth.
The Territory Government says it will not accept the remaining money on offer because it can’t meet operational costs at the proposed facilities.
It says that if the Federal Government won’t run the facilities, the Territory won’t accept the money to build them. Federal Indigenous Health Minister Warren Snowdon has criticised the decision. He…
