This message from Beyond Nuclear Initiative
Community rally in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory
A community rally is being organised in Tennant Creek on the weekend of May 7-8. Anyone is welcome to attend and funds are urgently needed to support Traditional Owners to attend and cover the costs of the weekend’s events.
This event will be just a few days before a Senate vote on new waste dump legislation and therefore a great opportunity to show Senators how serious the community remains about opposing the dump.
Please see letter attached requesting support and please donate if possible to help the rally be successful. You can also email a short statement of support if you are unable to attend.
Help Stop the Muckaty Radioactive Waste Dump To all supporters of Aboriginal rights:
“We are the Traditional Owners of the Muckaty Land Trust, where the government is trying to put a radioactive waste dump.
On behalf of the Traditional Elders and all the Warlmampa people we want to invite you to come out to Tennant Creek to support our community and show the government the strong opposition to a waste dump being imposed on our land.
In midMay the government is voting on a new law, the National Radioactive Waste Management Act, which names Muckaty as the one site for the waste dump. They are determined it will go ahead but we are determined to stop them.”
Signed: Dianne Stokes, Mark Chungaloo, Mark Lane, Bunny Naburula

Coming to Tennant Creek?
You will need to be self‐sufficient with food and accommodation. Please take a moment to RSVP to lauren.a.mellor at gmail.com to let us know you’re coming.
What you can do
Contact Minister Martin Ferguson, your federal Member and Senator/s to call for the Muckaty site to be dropped when the Howard waste dump laws are repealed. The highly contested nomination of Muckaty was made under the Howard era laws and needs to be scrapped in favour of a responsible and just approach to radioactive waste management.
